Is humidity causing problems in your home? From mold to odors and a cough that never seems to go away, you might be surprised by the issues arising from high moisture levels in the air.

That’s why dehumidifiers are becoming a household staple for enhanced comfort and relief.

We look at a versatile, user-friendly unit in our Tosot dehumidifier review! It just might be the answer to your prayers. Let’s get started!

Tosot 50 Pint Dehumidifier Design Overview

Who would’ve thought humidity does more than frizz up hair and drench you in sweat? In fact, too much moisture creates the perfect environment for allergens and mold to thrive.

If you’ve noticed mold growing on your clothes, leather bags, or walls, it’s most likely due to humidity. If you suffer from asthma or allergies and your symptoms are acting up, guess who the likely culprit is?

That’s right—humidity.

Dehumidifiers are highly effective at balancing humidity levels in homes to prevent these issues.

A dehumidifier works by sucking in the moist air, collecting the water droplets in a bucket, and blowing dry air back out into the surrounding area.

In our review, we take a look at a series of dehumidifiers manufactured by Tosot, a company designing household appliances for 20 years.

There are four different-sized units in the collection that give consumers more flexibility in choosing the right unit for their needs without paying extra.

The Tosot dehumidifier design is a bit large and bulky for our taste, but that’s because we are used to seeing sleek, minimalistic units on the market.

While this doesn’t impede performance, small apartment owners might opt for a smaller size to ensure they have space to store the dehumidifier without becoming an eyesore.

Portability is easy, though, with four caster wheels on the base that swivel 360 degrees.

It’s a standard design, but an intuitive one that lets you set up your preferences and leave the machine running on its own until the tank fills up and the unit shuts off.

The price varies depending on unit size, but the Tosot 50 Pint dehumidifier with pump is the most expensive at around $300.

We do think this is a bit much for what it has to offer, as there are other similar dehumidifiers on the market that cost less.

We’ll be focusing on the Tosot 50-pint dehumidifier primarily for this review, but below, you can compare the specifications of each unit.

Tosot Dehumidifier 50 Pint Features

The Tosot 70 Pint dehumidifier comes equipped with the common feature package you’ll find with most residential units on the market.

Each function is designed with convenience in mind so that consumers can use this in multiple places for various situations.

Tosot Dehumidifier Filter

A man's hand holding the Tosot 50 Pint Dehumidifier's washable filter

The Tosot dehumidifier comes with a washable filter. This type of filter is preferred over single-use varieties because you won’t have to run to the store to buy one ever again.

Long-lasting, eco-friendly, and cost-effective, Tosot scores points with this type of system.

The Filter Button will let you know when it’s time to clean the filter after around 250 hours of use. Remove it from the back of the unit and rinse it under running water.

Wait until it has dried completely before placing it back inside the unit.

User-Friendly Control Panel

The light-touch LED control panel located on top of the dehumidifier Tosot features a few buttons and a Humidistat display. Each button is pretty self-explanatory and what you’ll typically find on many other dehumidifiers.

Here is a breakdown of each button:

  • 24-Hour Timer: Use this button to set the duration of operation at an interval of 2/4 hours. The machine will turn off when the timer runs out.
  • Temperature Arrows: These arrows can be used to set the humidity level you’d like to achieve. It goes up by 5% increments, with a temperature range of 35% to 85%.
  • Filter Button: This lets you know that it’s time to clean the filter, generally after 250 hours of use.
  • Fan: There are three fan speeds to choose from: low, medium, and high.
  • Continuous mode: Instead of setting the timer, you can set the dehumidifier to run non-stop by holding down the (-) button until NS shows on the screen. You’ll have to stop it manually, or it will deactivate after the tank is full.
  • Auto Restart: In case of a power outage, the dehumidifier will save your preferences and restart once power is restored.

Noise Level

One of the most important details to check out when shopping for a dehumidifier is how noisy it is. That’s why it’s smart to run the unit in the store first, so you can study how it operates.

A loud dehumidifier can be distracting, especially if you’re trying to get some shut-eye at night. It’s also worth noting that the higher the unit’s capacity, the louder it will probably be.

Luckily, that’s not the case with the Tosot 50 pint. One characteristic that makes this unit high value is that it puts out 48 dB of sound. For reference, anything less than 50 dB is considered quiet for an appliance.

And that’s if you’re running it at the max setting. At night, you could set it to a low fan speed and probably won’t hear a thing!

Auto Defrost

Another excellent feature that is wired into the Tosot dehumidifier’s hardware is auto defrost. This makes it suitable for both warm and cold regions, especially with climate fluctuations due to changing seasons.

When temperatures dip below 64°F, the cooler temperature can cause ice to form on the evaporative coils inside the dehumidifier.

Ice can affect the unit’s performance; if left unchecked, it can accumulate and damage the components.

The auto defrost prevents this from happening by sensing ice formation and quickly deactivating the machine. It will keep the fan running to melt the ice completely, after which it will restart.

The Tosot 50 pint dehumidifier runs perfectly in temperatures as low as 40°F.

Drainage System

Each Tosot dehumidifier comes with two drainage systems to make life a little bit easier.

You can drain the water manually by removing the water tank once it’s full and dumping it yourself.

Or, you can attach a drainage hose to the valve on the back of the unit, and it will empty the water continuously on its own.

So, which one is better?

Both systems have their perks, but it comes down to how you want to use your dehumidifier.

If you plan to move your unit from room to room or up flights of stairs, you might prefer manually draining the bucket yourself.

You have the freedom of portability, but depending on the unit and how often you run the machine, you might have to empty it a few times per day.

Generally, the larger the tank capacity, the less you’ll have to empty it. Also, you don’t have to worry about the bucket overflowing.

The dehumidifier will shut off automatically when the tank is full, and an indicator will also let you know it’s time to empty the water.

If you plan on installing the dehumidifier in one room, such as a basement, you can attach a drainage hose to the valve, and the water will empty into a nearby floor drain.

Note that this is possible with all of the Tosot units except the Tosot Dehumidifier with pump.

The difference is that pumpless units are gravity-fed, so the drainage hose can only empty the water in a drain on the floor. This narrows down the options for where you can install your dehumidifier.

The Tosot 50 Pint dehumidifier with pump is not gravity-fed. So you can have the hose running up into a sink, and the pump will direct the water upwards, giving you a little more flexibility.

This is another detail that adds value, as you won’t see many lower-priced models with an internal pump.

But, say you’re planning on using your dehumidifier for the basement and can attach a hose to the same drain as your HVAC unit, then you don’t necessarily need to pay extra for the Tosot 50 Pint unit with a pump.

Energy Star Certified

Another positive for the Tosot dehumidifier is that it is Energy Star Certified. That means it has met the Environmental Protection Agency’s efficiency standards after undergoing evaluation.

Energy Star Certified appliances are generally 15% more energy-efficient than uncertified appliances. Not only is this environmentally friendly, but it can help you save on your monthly energy bill.

The Tosot dehumidifier line features four different units, including 20 pint, 35 pint, 50 pint, and 50 pint, with an internal pump.

This gives consumers more versatility in finding a dehumidifier that meets their needs without paying extra.

There is something for everyone. If you only want to dry a small bedroom, office, or closet, then the smaller units should serve the purpose while also providing a whisper-quiet operation.

For larger rooms such as basements and living rooms, or areas with heavy moisture, the 50-pint dehumidifier has enough power to stabilize humidity levels with an output of 48 dB.

It also comes with several auto functions that allow you to leave the unit alone and go about your daily business. For instance, if the water tank fills up, the machine will stop immediately to avoid overflow.

There is a wide range of temperature settings to choose from, between 35% and 85% humidity. Although, some Tosot dehumidifier reviews have mentioned that the unit blows warm air that heats the surrounding area.

This can come in handy during the winter if you live in a cooler region. But for warmer areas, it might not be comfortable.

The Tosot 50 Pint dehumidifier is also a bulky, heavy machine. Tosot dehumidifier reviews mention this as an inconvenience, even if it is equipped with four caster wheels.

But honestly, the drawbacks are minimal with this unit. The fact that there are multiple options for water drainage, a user-friendly interface, and a robust design that’s also quiet are the gold points that consumers look for in an appliance.

The price is slightly high compared to other models that offer the same feature set for less, but the quality of Tosot is excellent. You can count on this dehumidifier to deliver long-lasting results.

We recommend the Tosot dehumidifier for…

  • Small, moderate, and large rooms
