The Luraco massage chair i7 has quickly gained popularity since its introduction in 2015. And although relatively new to the market, it competes directly with the world’s best massage chairs including the Inada DreamWave.
But does it live up to the hype?
In this review, we’re introducing you to the company and walking you through all of the features the Luraco iRobotics i7 has to offer to help you see if this massage chair is the right one for you. Let’s get started!
About Luraco Technologies
Luraco Technologies is a privately owned engineering and manufacturing company based in Arlington, Texas. They are the first and only US-based massage chair manufacturer. Though their massage chairs are “American Made,” some of their non-critical components are made in Taiwan. Specifically, structural hardware and leather are made in Taiwan. But all of the other components — research, development, software, engineering, electronic hardware, and final assembly — occur in the U.S.
Their best-selling massage chair is the Luraco iRobotics 7, which has received numerous awards including Best Medical Massage Chair at the Consumer Electronics Association Show (CES) in 2015, Best of Show at the CEDIA Expo in 2016, and the Best Quality in Home Furnishings by Innovation and Tech Today Magazine in 2016.
Perhaps one of the most compelling aspects of the Luraco company is its in-house customer service and after-sales support team. After spending thousands of dollars on a massage chair, you want to know that if something goes wrong, someone will help you find the solution. With Luraco, you can count on that level of pre- and post-sales support — they’re known for their “find the solution” attitude.
The Luraco iRobotics 7 retails for $8,490. However, it can often be found discounted on sites like Amazon. The chair comes with a five-year limited warranty that includes three years parts and in-house labor coverage and five years parts coverage.
Now that we’ve introduced you to the chair and the company, it’s time to dig into the features. Let’s go!
Features on the Luraco Massage Chair I7 IRobotics
Body Scan Technology
When you first sit on the Luraco massage chair i7, the chair initiates a body scan. The scan process on the Luraco takes about 2 minutes, which is a minute to a minute and half longer than other massage chair scans. Although longer, the scan is highly accurate and capable of not only measuring your shoulder height but the shape of your entire spine.
There is a way to bypass the scan, but it requires you to save a program to the chair’s memory and then select the saved program each time you want to bypass it. It’s not a totally cumbersome process and some users won’t mind sitting through the scan each time, but it’s something to consider. Would you rather jump in a massage chair and get a massage right away? Or would you be okay to wait for two minutes for the chair to map your back before beginning?
Note: In case the scan didn’t quite detect the correct position of your shoulders, the Luraco iRobotics 7 lets you manually adjust the position of the rollers.
3D Roller Technology with 32-Inch S-Track
Once the body scan is complete, your roller massage begins. The Luraco iRobotics 7 has dual rollers — one on each side of the spine. Because the iRobotics 7 has two (dual) rollers instead of four (quad), they perform a slightly more intense and targeted massage (think shiatsu versus Swedish).
The rollers move in three ways: up and down, side to side, and outward into the muscles, which means the rollers on the Luraco iRobotics 7 are 3D. In general, 3D rollers give you a lot more control over the intensity of your massage. You can tell the rollers to penetrate deeper into your muscles or back off to lessen the contact. There are five levels of intensity adjustment. The intensity can be adjusted for each body area independently (for example, the lower back) or as a group. And if you find the lowest setting still feels too rough, a backrest pad is available to dampen the pressure even more.
The rollers move along a 32-inch S-Track, which is an “S” shaped track that’s designed to replicate the natural curvature of your spine. In general, S-tracks range from 24 to 33 inches, so the 32-inch S-Track on the Luraco i7 is one of the longest you’ll find and extends from the neck to the tailbone on most users. And thanks to its long track, the Luraco iRobotics 7 easily fits users from 5’2” to 6’5,” and perhaps even taller.
Air Massage Technology
In addition to roller massage, the Luraco iRobotics 7 has one of the most robust air massage systems available. With 100 airbags, the iRobotics 7 is only rivaled by the Inada DreamWave which also has 100 airbags.
So you may be wondering… with so many airbags is the chair noisy?
Great question.
Luraco considered this aspect when designing the iRobotics 7. The chair incorporates what they call “noise reduction technology,” that insulates the chair so you feel the high number of airbags, but don’t hear them.
The airbags are strategically placed to treat the neck, shoulders, arms, hands, hips, seat, thighs, calves, and feet. The shoulder airbags are adjustable to accommodate narrow and wide frames. And the air massage intensity can be adjusted by five levels.
Mechanical Foot Massage
Inside the foot portion of ottoman on the Luraco iRobotics 7 are mechanical foot rollers that spin to massage the bottoms of the feet. The rollers work with the calf and foot airbags. As the airbags inflate they press the feet onto the rollers for a more effective massage.
A common complaint you’ll hear about foot rollers is that they can be a little too intense. However, the Luraco iRobotics 7 includes removable foot pads that give you control over the intensity of the rollers.
Heat Therapy
Heat is an important therapeutic feature for two main reasons: it dilates the blood vessels to increase circulation and therefore the flow of oxygen and damage-repairing nutrients; and it relaxes the muscles so the rollers can penetrate deeper into the tissues.
While many massage chairs offer heat therapy, very few offer it in multiple areas. The Luraco iRobotics 7 is, of course, the exception. With heating pads for the back, the seat, and the feet, the Luraco iRobotics 7 offers one of the most comprehensive heating systems available.
But perhaps what’s more compelling than the amount of heating coverage is the fact that the heat is adjustable — something we haven’t seen on a massage chair before (and we’ve reviewed a lot). The heat is adjustable to five settings, which means you’ll actually feel the heat. And if it gets too warm, you can simply turn it down.
Zero Gravity and Recline Options
On the Luraco massage chair, you can adjust the chair into nearly any position you want.
All of these adjustments are independent which means you’re guaranteed to find a comfortable position in the chair.
But if you’d rather the chair do all the work and put you in a scientifically-proven ergonomic position, the iRobotics 7 offers that, too. It’s called zero-gravity recline and it positions you such that the majority of your body’s weight is shifted to the backrest while your feet are elevated above your heart. In this NASA-inspired position, vertical pressure is removed from your spine and lower body, allowing your muscles to completely decompress and relax. At the same time, your body’s weight helps to hold you on top of the rollers for a deeper massage.
Smartphone-like Remote
Another feature you’ll only find on the Luraco massage chair is its smartphone-like remote control. The handheld touchscreen remote feels like an iPhone in the hand and its programs even look like apps. Its bright LCD screen displays all of the chair’s active functions, so you always know what’s running.
Plus, there’s even a security option that lets you password protect the chair. Want to make sure your children don’t use the chair unsupervised? Simply put a password on the chair that you have to enter before use.
The remote control also features an “Info” section that’s full of interesting health-related facts and diagrams. Want to know the reflexology points on the feet and their corresponding organs? The Luraco iRobotics 7 has a diagram for that. Want to know which meridians correspond to which ailments? The Luraco iRobotics 7 has a diagram for that, too.
Music System
At the bottom of the remote control is an SD card port. This port lets you import MP3 music files from an SD card (which is included with the chair) directly into the chair. Once your music is added, you can lay back and relax to soothing sounds as they play through a set of built-in speakers located on the back of the chair. All of the music’s settings — play, pause, volume, etc. — are controlled using the remote control.
Optional Blood Pressure Cuff
Luraco uses the trademarked term, “The World’s #1 Medical Massage Chair,” to describe the iRobotics 7. And as a medical massage chair you’d expect it to include some medical devices.
Enter the Omron Blood Pressure Cuff
For an additional fee (around $150), you can purchase an optional Omron blood pressure cuff that plugs directly into the Luraco massage chair i7. With the cuff, you can keep tabs on your heart rate and blood pressure directly from the chair.
Massage Techniques and Programs on the Massage Chair Luraco
The Luraco iRobotics 7 performs seven techniques, including kneading, tapping, Combination Kneading and tapping, stretch, shiatsu, Swedish, and rolling.
Automatic Massage Programs
Using a combination of roller techniques and air massage, the Luraco massage chair i7 features nine automatic massage programs. These programs are fully-automated. So if you like the idea of getting in your massage chair and letting it do all the work, the automatic programs are what you want. The programs run from 5 to 30 minutes.
The programs are:
Manual Mode Massage
On the “Manual” page on the Luraco iRobotics 7 remote is where you control all of the manual mode options. The screen displays a body diagram with areas highlighting different functions, for example, seat swivel. Here, you can control nearly every aspect of your massage.
Let’s take a look at a quick rundown of your manual options:
*The Luraco iRobotics 7 also offers a feature you may be familiar with if you’ve researched the Inada DreamWave. It’s called seat swivel. This technology was first incorporated on the Inada DreamWave, but other massage chairs quickly followed suit. This is because seat swivel is beneficial for folks with acute lower back pain who can’t get relief from a therapist alone. The motion of the seat swivel gently rocks the hips from side to side to help increase mobility. Plus, the gentle rocking motion offers a gentle and soothing stretch to the pelvic area.
Memory Settings
And the best part is… when you’re done dialing in all your settings, you can save the massage to the chair’s memory, called “users.” So the next time you use the chair, all you have to do is press the saved massage and the chair will remember your settings — no need to reselect your preferences each time. The Luraco iRobotics 7 has five “user” profiles which is like adding five additional automatic massage programs to the chair.
