Brewing a barista-worthy espresso at home doesn’t have to be complicated- not with the right automatic coffee maker by your side.

The challenge is finding a reliable setup with a proven track record for producing drinks bursting with flavors and aromas.

Never fear; our Jura J6 review is here! We take an in-depth look at a brand respected for quality, innovation, and great-tasting coffee. Let’s dive in!

Jura Impressa J6 Design Overview

You can always expect class and elegance from Swiss brand Jura without ever having to question functionality. Their Jura Impressa J6 automatic coffee machine is yet another star-studded design in their line of highly-rated models.

Smooth surfaces, clean-cut lines, and no protruding parts make the J6 a joy to coordinate with any type of kitchen decor. Whether you go for the Jura J6 Silver or the Jura Impressa J6 piano white, you can rest assured that the aesthetics are on point.

But that’s to be expected with Jura. Besides their award-winning designs, they never fail to skimp on quality when it comes to innovation.

The Jura J6 Coffee Machine with its milk carafe and a glass filled with specialty coffee under its milk spout

You get state-of-the-art coffee technology all wrapped up in a neat stainless steel package. Some of that technology is Jura’s creation, such as Pulse Extraction Technology, Fine Foam Technology, and Aroma G3 Grinder.

We’ll go over these features in more detail here in our Jura J6 review, but let’s get back to marveling at how pretty the machine is.

Its dimensions are 16.5 x 11 x 13.25 inches, and it weighs 22 pounds. That’s typical for automatic coffee machines of this caliber, which admittedly is still large.

You’ll want to ensure you’ve got a nice spacious spot picked out, and for those with limited counter space, do you really need that microwave? This is coffee we’re talking about here!

Overall, there are no worries with Jura. You already know that you’re getting what you pay for, and the convenience this model offers is unparalleled.

We will say that it is a bit pricey for what it offers, but you can’t beat that quality and ease of use, especially since cleaning is fully automated.

Alright, we’re fangirling a little too hard over here! Let’s look at the features.

Jura J6 Coffee Machine Features

Precision and perfection are words that come to mind when pondering the Jura J6 coffee machine. It utilizes a cutting-edge brew system that results in delicious coffee every time.

Of course, not everything is perfect, and there are a few minor drawbacks to discuss. We cover it all!

71-oz Water Tank

Removable water tank of the Jura Coffee Machine J6

There are two important factors to note when it comes to coffee machine water tanks: the size and the location.

Unless your coffee machine is connected to a water line, you’re going to have to refill it. Depending on how much coffee your family drinks, that may be often.

Constantly refilling a water tank gets tedious, especially if you’re in a rush.

Luckily, the J6 sports an above-average 71-oz water tank, which we recommend for home use, but it may be too small for the office lounge.

The water tank is located on top of the machine, which makes refills effortless and splash-free. It’s also removable for easy rinsing under the faucet.

Jura incorporated their genius RFID technology and Intelligent Water System. A CLARIS water filter is recommended because it purifies the water to bring out the best aromas and flavors in the coffee.

It will also sense when a filter has been added and let you know when it’s time to change it out for a fresh one.

8.8-oz Bean Hopper

The Jura J6 espresso machine without its cup platform

The Jura J6 brilliant silver comes with a non-removable bean hopper that holds up to 8.8-oz of fresh whole coffee beans.

One handy function is the Active Bean Monitoring sensor, which alerts you when the beans need to be refilled. This ensures that the grinder is never empty for optimal results.

A powder chute is also included for those who prefer preground coffee over whole beans. It holds enough coffee for up to 16 servings.

One thing we like to do is always look at how well the beans are preserved in the hopper because coffee beans go stale quickly unless sealed in an airtight container.

The J6 gets top marks since it comes with an Aroma Preservation Cover to keep oxygen out and all of the flavors in.

Aroma G3 Grinder

One setting you’ll want to scrutinize on an automatic coffee machine is the grinder. It plays a critical role in the overall coffee experience.

A quick explanation: semi-automatics require the user to buy a grinder separately. You have all of the freedom to grind fresh beans as coarsely or as fine as you like to get the most aromas and flavors out of the beans.

With superautomatics, including the J6, the grinder is built-in. Fortunately, Jura incorporated a top-of-the-line conical steel burr grinder.

Now in our opinion, ceramic is best since it doesn’t overheat and risk burning the beans. However, still, this is a fine setup- especially since Jura upgraded the grinder with Aroma G3 technology.

This simply means that the grinder grinds up the beans lightning fast compared to other models on the market, with angled blades that ensure precise extraction of flavors.

We are pleased with the quality of the grinding. You have 7 grind settings to choose from, so there’s plenty of flexibility to find what works for you.

One downside, though, is the fact that you can’t have the freedom to use any type of bean you like. It’s a known thing that integrated grinders have a tendency to clog when oily varieties are ground, and Jura J6 coffee machine reviews confirm this.

We think that for the price, you should be able to use coffee beans grown on Mars if you so desire.

Milk Frothing System

The Jura J6 Automatic Coffee Machine with its milk carafe and a glass filled with specialty drink under its milk spout

Have you tried a Jura J6 cappuccino? With the Fine Foam Technology and interchangeable milk spout and pipe, it’s easier than ever to brew your favorite milk specialties with the perfect microfoam- all at the push of a button.

There’s a little storage compartment to keep the milk parts, which is a nice touch- even if it means extra cleaning.

This is a standard, easy system that anyone can use. You don’t have to go through a learning curve to master milk foam, just choose your settings and let Jura do the hard work.

Jura J6 Espresso Machine Accessories

There are numerous Jura accessories to use with the J6, but unfortunately, you’ll have to buy them separately. This includes cleaning tablets, the CLARIS water filter, and a milk carafe.

Jura Coffee Machine J6 Brewing Capabilities

The Jura 15150 J6 Coffee Machine and a glass filled with specialty coffee under its milk spout

The J6 brewing technology is top-of-the-line. It’s undisputed across the market, as this is where Jura’s brilliant innovation is on display.

It starts with simplicity through efficiency. They’ve manufactured a world-class coffee machine that pumps out professional-grade coffee drinks at the push of a button.

Everything can be controlled from the 2.8” color display and rotary knob, with clear graphics that make it incredibly easy to adjust your settings.

Or, you can connect your smartphone via the Smart Connect function and control the machine through the J.O.E app.

The drink menu features 13 specialties, which include the following:

  • Ristretto
  • 2 x Ristretto
  • Espresso
  • 2 x Espresso
  • Coffee
  • 2 x Coffee
  • Cappuccino
  • Macchiato
  • Latte macchiato
  • Flat white
  • Portion of milk foam
  • Portion of milk
  • Hot water

You also get a great variety of customization options to perfect your personal recipe. There are 10 coffee strengths, 3 brewing strengths, and 3 water temperatures to choose from.

Once you’ve selected your settings, you can opt to save your recipe for next time– which is a rare feature you usually see on highly expensive models.

After the beans have been ground, the brewing begins. A 15 bar high-performance pump and single Thermoblock are used to heat the machine in 10 seconds.

This is a bit lackluster since dual boilers allow for simultaneous heating and steaming. With a single boiler, you need to wait for the milk to heat up separately if you’re making milk drinks, which matters if you’re entertaining guests and brewing a large batch of drinks.

Still, it’s not a dealbreaker as the J6 pulls a mean espresso in no time.

The Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P) is one of Jura’s defining technologies, lending to the magnificent taste of the coffee its machines produce.

It works by pulsing jets of hot water through the ground coffee at intervals, ensuring that every trace of flavor is extracted. The coffee dispenses from two spouts, which means you can brew two cups in one session.

One thing we didn’t like was that the spouts are very close together, and Jura Impressa J6 reviews also confirm this. You need to be picky with your glasses- as in slender, not wide so that they can fit underneath each spout.

J6 Jura Coffee Machine Cleaning Process

The cleaning process for the Jura J6 is straightforward and one of the reasons why this coffee machine is worth the price.

Coffee aficionados know how arduous it can be to maintain a superautomatic. From descaling to disinfecting the milk pipes, it’s akin to caring for a puppy.

Fortunately, Jura saw the benefit of simplifying the cleaning process to make it as hands-free as possible. They accomplished this by automating most of the maintenance procedures.

Every time you turn off the machine, it automatically rinses the entire system. Even if you want to do a deep clean, just add the recommended cleaning solution, hit a button, and it takes care of the rest.

Even the milk system cleans itself with a thorough hygienic process that is TÜV- certified.

Descaling is a thing of the past if you use a CLARIS smart water filter. Jura promises that you will never have to descale with this filtration system.

Better yet, you don’t need to remember anything for maintenance or Jura Impressa J6 troubleshooting. The control panel will immediately issue an alert and explain exactly what needs attention.

Jura J6 Automatic Coffee Machine Pros vs. Cons

PROS

  • Pulse Extraction System.
  • Customization options.
  • Memory program.
  • J.O.E App.
  • Fine Foam Technology.
  • Automatic cleaning.

CONS

  • Single Thermoblock.
  • Grinder may clog.
  • Expensive.

The Jura 15150 J6 coffee machine is a force to be reckoned with in the superautomatic market- but any Jura model is, for that matter. You can’t beat the technology and quality, not to mention the attractive design.

With that being said, this is an expensive coffee maker– even for what it offers. You can definitely find similar models for less.

But if you’re looking for reliable and delicious tasting coffee, the Jura J6 is a winner. The P.E.P system revolutionizes flavor extraction, and you’ll be able to tell the difference with that first anticipated sip.

Another big plus is the variety. You can customize to your heart’s content, from how fine you like to grind your beans to the strengths and temperatures of your drinks. You can even save your settings, which is a huge convenience.

Finally, the cleaning process has been simplified, so you barely have to lift a finger. Nothing is more important than regularly maintaining an expensive coffee machine, but it can be tedious if you’re a power drinker.

Jura took that out of the equation with automatic rinsing and no descaling.

Overall, it’s an excellent model to consider if you want to get serious about coffee. The drawbacks are minimal and won’t affect the quality of your coffee.
