Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? When life gets stressful, massage therapy is an effective way to keep the blues at bay.

But going to a masseuse gets expensive quickly! That’s why massage chairs offer the advantage of at-home relaxation and therapeutic bliss.

In our iJoy Total massage chair review, we look at one of Human Touch’s low-range models, so you can decide if it’s the perfect piece for your needs.

iJoy Total Massage by Human Touch Design Overview

Human Touch is a respected brand in the massage chair industry, with over 40 years of design experience honed by the expertise of medical practitioners and engineers.

Their recliners are manufactured with quality technology, so it’s no wonder they have a steady following who enjoy Human Touch massage chairs for their comfort, reliability, and therapeutic benefits.

Today, we are focusing on one of their low-range models, the iJoy Total massage chair. Low range means that it’s budget-friendly, with a limited feature set. Therefore, the iJoy Total doesn’t come with a lot of the bells and whistles you’ll see with other chairs on the market.

What it does offer is a casual experience for people who want to relax. There’s no hassle with this chair. It’s user-friendly, straightforward, and compact.

The iJoy Total dimensions are 47″ L x 30″ W x 44″ H, and it weighs only 95 pounds. That’s rare to see with a massage chair, as the average weight is a whopping 200 pounds.

Its lightweight design makes the iJoy an ideal piece for apartment owners or homes with limited space. It also comes in two boxes, with iJoy Total reviews remarking on how easy and fast it is to assemble.

The iJoy Total can fully recline, with 11” of clearance between the backrest and the wall. Note that the ideal clearance is 5” and less, but it isn’t that big of a deal if you plan your installation accordingly.

Although the iJoy is on the smaller side, it accommodates a height of 6 ft. tall with a manually extendable footrest.

But while it allows the user to find the best fit for their height, manual footrests mean you have to push it out to your desired length and then hold it in place with your feet. This may be undesirable if you want to let loose and fully relax.

And although the iJoy accommodates taller people, it only holds a max weight of 285 pounds. This means that people with larger body types—no matter how much they love the chair—will have to look elsewhere simply because of their size.

iJoy Total Features

The iJoy Total massage by Human Touch has a very basic feature set, but this might be just enough comfort for casual hobbyists to satisfy their needs. Let’s take a look at what it can do!

S-Track + FlexGlide 360

An illustration of a man sitting on the iJoy Total Massage Chair black variant and the chair's short S-track

Human Touch equipped the iJoy Total with a standard S-track, which arguably isn’t the best massage tech you can get for this price.

The S-track starts at the base of the neck and follows the natural curve of the spine. It ends at the lumbar region, allowing the neck, shoulders, and entire back to enjoying a full-range massage.

Admittedly, an L-track or S/L-track is ideal, and there are several low-range chairs on the market that have a longer track than the iJoy Total. A longer track allows the rollers to massage the glutes and thighs, which feels heavenly after an intense workout.

But if your focus is on your back, then the S-track should suffice for your needs.

The iJoy Total utilizes a FlexGlide 360 roller system, which is unique to the Human Touch brand.

The rollers move in a horizontal rotation, gliding smoothly without any friction or pinching. They perform kneading, percussion, knead + percussion combo, and glide to loosen tightness, dissolve pain, and help the user feel relaxed.

No Body Scan, No Heat, No Zero Gravity

This section is less about what the iJoy Total massage chair does have and more about what it doesn’t have.

Apart from roller technology, there is nothing more to offer therapeutic benefits. Typically, you’ll see chairs in this price range with an auto body scan, lumbar heating, and at least one Zero Gravity position.

These are all popular features that enhance the massage experience and cater to people who suffer from back and leg pain. Therefore, the iJoy Total may not be the best match if you’re looking to cut down on chiropractor visits.

All in all, this is a simple massage chair that can be used as a comfortable recliner for watching TV or when you just want to relax.

You do get the exceptional quality that Human Touch is known for, but honestly, you can find other chairs for the same price that offer many bells and whistles.

iJoy Total Programs

The Human Touch iJoy Total performs three auto programs for a full body massage, shoulder massage, and lower back massage.

Each program is 15 minutes long, with the option to focus on a specific body part with spot massage or a specific section with partial massage.

The intensity and width of the rollers can be adjusted according to the user’s preferences.

As you can see, the massage menu is small, and the manual settings are limited. We were pleased to see that the iJoy Total does have two specialty programs: air compression and foot/calf rollers.

Air Massage

iJoy Total Massage Chair cream variant and black airbags for the arms

Air massage is a popular feature found in many chairs on the market. It uses inflated airbags to compress the muscles for improved blood circulation, surface stimulation, and deep relaxation.

For a full-body compression massage, the iJoy has air cells located in the arms, calves, feet, upper arms, and shoulders.

This is ideal for those who want to enjoy a less intense massage instead of deep kneading rollers.

Foot/Calf Massage

iJoy Total Massage Chair cream variant's manually extendable footrest

The iJoy Total utilizes foot rollers, calf rollers, and airbags in the footwells to deliver a subliminal lower extremity massage.

The fact that both rollers and airbags are used simultaneously is a plus, as you usually only see airbags for the calves and rollers for the feet with many other low-range chairs.

The presence of both rollers and airbags offers significant pain relief for people who are on their feet for long hours.

iJoy Total Massage Chair Pros vs. Cons

PROS

  • Compact and lightweight
  • Easy to use
  • Suitable for back pain and relaxation
  • Affordable

CONS

  • No heat
  • No body scan
  • No Zero Gravity Seating
  • S-track doesn’t massage the glutes or thighs

Human Touch’s iJoy Total massage chair allows enthusiasts to own a high-quality recliner for under $2,000.

Now, the iJoy doesn’t offer a robust feature set like other therapeutic chairs. It is more geared towards convenience and relaxation, with a sleek, lightweight design that can fit just about anywhere.

Its main (and only) feature is the S-track with FlexGlide 360 rollers. These rollers can perform four different techniques to cover the entire back and shoulders.

And while the glutes and thighs miss out on any action, the calves and feet are massaged by rollers and air compression to give people with tired, sore feet a chance to get some relief.

What you’re paying for here are the Human Touch quality and precision. This brand has been in the massage chair game for a long time, so you count on the technological implementation to be top-of-the-line.

That is… if you’re willing to pay the price and get fewer features compared to other similar models.

We recommend the iJoy Total Massage Chair for…

  • Casual hobbyists who want to relax
  • Small households and apartments with limited space
  • People who value ease of use and convenience over therapeutic benefits

iJoy Total Massage Chair Review Conclusion

Human Touch is a reputable brand, so rest assured you’re getting a high-quality massage chair and a top-notch performance. The iJoy Total massage chair is comfortable and attractive but functions more like a TV recliner than a therapeutic ergonomic recliner.

To conclude this iJoy Total Massage Chair review, while it is considered a low-range massage chair, we still think it’s expensive for the limited amount of features it offers. The main draw here is that it’s lightweight, user-friendly, and portable. That’s why we recommend this model for casual hobbyists.
