If you answered yes to any of the questions above and you’re interested in night vision binoculars, then you’re going to love what you read in this—our Barska NVX300 review.

Barska is one of the big names in the sports optics industry, making everything from binoculars and telescopes to rifle scopes and, yes, even night vision gear. Their products are mostly entry to mid-level and are priced accordingly but delightfully rugged and well-built.

In the sections that follow, we’ll be taking a closer look at the company’s NVX300 night vision binoculars, outlining the model’s numerous strengths and not pulling punches when it comes to describing its few weaknesses and shortcomings. If your interest is piqued, read on, and let’s take a closer look!

Barska NVX300 Night Vision Binoculars BQ13374 Features and Capabilities

Barska Night Vision NVX300 with black matte rubberized exterior and soft buttons on one side

This is an incredibly strong component of our Barska NVX300 review.

Measuring just 5.5” x 7” x 2.25”, the Barska night vision NVX300 infrared illuminator digital binoculars are quite unassuming and maybe even a little underwhelming at first glance.

Don’t let their modest appearance fool you, however. There’s an awful lot of technology and functionality packed into that tiny package.

Here’s a quick overview of the specs and capabilities of the binoculars:

  • 7x magnification with a digital zoom function of up to 2x
  • Night vision is made possible by a 1.8W infrared LED with a wavelength of 850nm
  • Sports a 20mm objective lens
  • Has a field of view of 328 feet (100 meters)
  • A 2” display screen with a resolution of 320×240 (recorded image/video resolution is 640×480)
  • Gets its power from 4 x AA batteries (not included with purchase)
  • Batteries will support up to 8 hours of continuous use
  • Includes a USB port to allow images and video captured by the binoculars to be transferred to a PC or laptop
  • Files are stored on a micro-SD card (not included with purchase)
  • Has a built-in tripod mount
  • Captures both still images and video

In addition to that, the housing is rubberized weather and water-resistant, which makes the Barska 8x32mm binocular camera surprisingly rugged. Even better, it only weighs 15.2 ounces, which makes it easy to carry and use, even for extended periods.

Most of these numbers are exceptional. A 100-meter night vision range is impressive and is sufficient to make the BQ13374 useful to law enforcement officials conducting nighttime surveillance.

The 2” onboard display is a little on the small side, but that fact is offset by how easy it is to transfer single-frame images and video to a PC, where the image can be viewed full-size.

The only real limitation to be mindful of is the fact that since the unit is powered by four AA batteries, it only gives you eight hours of continuous use. If you’re planning an all-night hike or surveillance that will run longer than eight hours, you’ll want to be sure to bring extra batteries with you to get you through a full night.

It may also be worth investing in rechargeable batteries, which will keep you from having to buy replacements on a near-constant basis.

NVX300 Night Vision Binoculars with a black matte finish and rugged water-resistant housing

Unfortunately, this isn’t such a strong component of our Barska NVX300 review. Barska skimps on the accessories front, and we’re a little disappointed by that. The only “extra” you get with your purchase is a neck strap.

It’s a good accessory that definitely adds value to the unit, but there are a lot of missed opportunities here. The company could have made a deal for SD cards, gotten them at a price that regular consumers couldn’t match, and included them with the binoculars, which would give you one less thing to buy.

In a similar vein, the design doesn’t include any means of strapping the binoculars to a helmet, and this would have been easy to add without increasing the cost of the NVX 300 in a meaningful way. While it’s true that not everyone would want or need that capability, it would have been an incredible (and easy) addition.

Finally, we’d have loved this model even more if it came with a tripod. Granted, not everyone would have `wanted or needed one, but since it already has the mounting, the company could have again leveraged its ability to buy in quantity to provide one at a price an individual consumer would be hard-pressed to match, and that would have been fantastic.

Barska NVX300 Review Conclusion

Barska NVX300 Night Vision Binoculars with a 2-inch color LCD display and black matte finish

Clearly, Barska NVX 300 night vision binoculars are a niche product. If you’re not a member of law enforcement, a researcher, or a prepper, or if you don’t make a habit of going on night hikes or something similar, you’ll probably struggle to find regular uses for something like this.

Even so, there’s a lot of really cool tech here, and if you love gadgets and gizmos, you may want one even if you don’t plan to use it very often.

For those who can’t find a use case on a regular basis, or for those who aren’t into high-tech gadgetry, we don’t recommend these at all. But if you fall into one of the common use case categories or are just looking for a new gizmo to experiment with, these are amazing, and we recommend them without reservation. If you decide to buy, we think you’ll be impressed.

Comparable Products to Consider

If you’ve reached the end of our Barska NVX300 review and you’re not completely sold on this model, here are a couple of other options to consider:

Offering even better capabilities than the model we just reviewed (9x magnification and a 2.6x digital zoom), the monocular’s only real limitation is that it only offers one eyepiece to look through. Depending on who you are and how you plan to use it, that may not be much of a limitation at all.

This is a superb value for the money and well worth considering if the Barska NVX 300 doesn’t meet your needs, whatever the reason.

These aren’t particularly well made, but they offer a ton of functionality for a very minimal cost. If you’re not sure you’re ready to commit significant resources to get a good pair of night vision binoculars, these are a fun, relatively inexpensive way to get your feet wet and test the technology out.
