In this review, we set our sights on the AmaMedic Juno II recliner, which costs well under $5,000 to qualify it for the low-range spectrum of the market.

With that being said, it has a basic design that many other chairs share, so don’t expect to feel like you’re sliding into a futuristic masterpiece. Instead, the AmaMedic embraces practicality, with less focus on the technology and more on variety with the massage programs.

For example, it comes with older technology that doesn’t feel as lifelike as other systems. However, users are treated to rare techniques such as Swedish massage, Tai Chi, and Thai massage.

The AmaMedic Juno II dimensions are 57.1″ x 29.5″ x 42.9″ when upright, and it weighs 177.5 lbs. This is obviously heavy to maneuver around a house, especially if you live in an apartment, hence the reason why you should definitely measure the area you want to install the chair in beforehand.

Nonetheless, Osaki did incorporate space-saving technology, which allows the user to recline fully with only 3” of clearance from the wall. This is top-tier for a low-range massage chair, as the industry standard is 5” or less.

The AmaMedic can carry a max weight of 220 lbs, which is admittedly less than many chairs. Unfortunately, larger body types won’t be able to enjoy the benefits of this model.

Taller folks can hop into the hot seat, though, since the footrest extends up to 6.7”. The only gripe here is that you have to apply pressure with your feet to manually hold the position in place, which, in our opinion, isn’t very relaxing.

SL-Track + 2D Roller System

To kick things off, the most essential place to start is the massage track and roller system. This is the technology that matters the most because it’s what determines how realistic the massage feels compared to human hands.

The AmaMedic comes equipped with an SL-Track, which is more advanced than the standard S-Track that only covers the back, following the natural spine curve and ending at the lumbar region.

The SL-Track runs down the length of the spine, curving underneath the seat, so the rollers can massage the glutes and thighs. This guarantees a full-body experience, which is a good deal considering the low price of this chair.

The 2D rollers, on the other hand, are considered older technology and, unfortunately, won’t feel as lifelike as 3D or 4D rollers.

These rollers move horizontally and vertically along the track but can’t move in/out or change speed. This gives you less customization, plus the rollers aren’t able to penetrate deep into the tissue as expertly as 3D or 4D.

Auto Body Scan

The auto body scan is a standard feature found throughout the market that caters to user convenience.

Specialized sensors are utilized to map out the body’s key pressure points, then the rollers self-adjust to hit these points accurately. Meanwhile, the user doesn’t have to lift a finger.

Does it sound too good to be true? Well, somewhat. This is a nifty feature, but the technology is not always accurate. You may end up adjusting the rollers manually anyways, but this is the same for any model with an auto body scan.

Zero Gravity Recline

Zero Gravity recline is a highly sought-after feature on the massage market that boosts the therapeutic value for people who suffer from chronic back pain.

The chair reclines to a specific angle that elevates the user’s legs slightly above the heart, creating a weightless sensation.

We are happy to see that the AmaMedic comes with Zero-G, especially for the low price. More expensive chairs typically offer three different positions for flexibility, but the AmaMedic only comes with two positions. Still, others at this price point often only offer one level—if at all—so this is a big plus.

Unfortunately, the back is the lucky area that gets to turn up the heat. There is a vibrating mechanism located in the hamstring area, which is rare to find on the market, but this is an older technology that only treats the surface of the muscles.

The wired remote controller isn’t the most user-friendly component, with an old-school button pad that might take some time to master.

Two advanced techniques (Shiatsu and Swedish) are a rare treat that we don’t even see on many high-range chairs!

Manual mode is also available for those who like to customize their massage experience. You can mix any of the techniques. There are five levels of speed, strength, and airbag intensity. Adjusting the width of the rollers is also possible with three levels to choose from.

Air Massage

There are two specialty programs with the AmaMedic that gives users a different experience other than rollers.

The first program is the wildly popular air massage, which utilizes airbags to invigorate surface muscles and facilitate blood flow through compression.

There are 36 airbags located throughout the AmaMedic massage chair, providing a full-body air massage that can be combined with the rollers simultaneously.

This is an above-average setup, with a higher number of airbags than we typically see on low-range chairs. Therefore, you’re getting a quality compression massage with the AmaMedic.

Foot/Calf Massage

The second specialty program is the foot/calf massage, which is perfect for people who spend long hours standing and suffer from tired, sore legs.

Foot rollers are located underneath the arches of the feet, while airbags envelop each foot and calf. When activated, the airbags inflate and push the feet to hold them firmly against the spinning rollers, increasing intensity.

To be honest, this is a mediocre setup, but we’re not surprised regarding the price. What truly sets a foot massage apart from others is when there are rollers that target the calves and heating that warms fatigued muscles.

If your priority is treating chronic leg/foot pain, then there are certainly more advanced options on the market.

Note that you won’t get much innovation or luxury. The overall design is a carbon copy of many of the other models on the market.

Plus, it features older 2D roller technology that just doesn’t stand up against the realistic feel of 3D/4D. This is probably the biggest drawback of the AmaMedic because you can find 3D technology with similarly priced models.

On the other hand, users are treated to a massage menu that includes rare programs we don’t even see with high-range models.

We especially love the Swedish and Shiatsu techniques since you typically only see Shiatsu offered.

It comes with a Zero Gravity recline, lumbar heat, and air massage, amplifying the therapeutic value for those suffering from chronic back pain.

However, there are no leg rollers or heat in the footwells, leaving the foot/calf massage mediocre at best.

The 220-lb weight capacity for this chair is also lighter than what we generally see on the market, which means a vast group of people with heavier body types is left out of the fun.

Overall, the AmaMedic is a high-quality recliner, offering comfort and relief. Just don’t expect the therapeutic benefits to be mind-blowing. That’s why we recommend this massage chair for all-around users who prioritize relaxation and also for those with back pain.
