Summary

The Jura ENA 5 automatic coffee machine aims to make life easier by doing just about everything for you: grinding the beans, tamping, brewing, and even ejecting the used coffee grounds (with a press of the button). When brewing a tasty cup of coffee, the ever-so-slim design fits on the counter top beneath your kitchen cabinets, keeping the kitchen looking great and clutter-free.

3.7

Choosing a new coffee maker goes far beyond the simple task of adding a small appliance to your kitchen. It is much more like investing in a relationship. Sure, you want something useful that looks good. But you also want a coffeemaker that has a great functionality with flair, is reliable, and keeps you coming back for more.

The question is, does the Jura-Capresso ENA 5 stand up to the coffee-maker relationship test?

Jura ENA 5 Features

  • Water Tank Reservoir. Holds up to 37 ounces of water which results in approximately 32 shots of espresso.
  • Single or Double Shot. Your choice.
  • Single Boiler with Heat Exchanger. The boiler is constructed out of stainless steel for excellent heat retention and durability. The heat exchanger feature allows the user to steam milk while simultaneously brewing espresso. However, there is a debate about whether this type of unit is as good as a double boiler —it’s often a personal preference.
  • Milk Frother. Fitted with two exchangeable spouts, this unit provides a choice between two options. One option is like a professional grade spout that allows the user to froth the milk manually. The other is for those who are less interested in the intricacies of froth, providing a pre-set option for either cappuccino (more foam) or latte (less foam).
  • Conical Burr Grinder. This grinder is high-end, a professional grade that provides the freshest, most evenly ground coffee possible. This is one of the main reasons why the coffee tastes so good.
  • Pump-Driven. This is a pump-driven machine, meaning that the water is forced through the grounds using an internal pump. Pump-driven machines (rather than steam-driven) typically produce a much better-tasting espresso, and this one is no exception.

Pros of the Jura ENA 5 Automatic Coffee Center

Small Countertop “Footprint”

At less than 24 cm wide, this multi-functional machine takes up less space than many coffee makers, without the need for a separate grinderThis space-saving design is ideal for those with smaller kitchens or for those who want an all-in-one in another space in the house such as a bar area.

One Step, Tasty Coffee

At the push of a button, you can get a superb, freshly-ground cup of Joe with ease, and automatic prompts make it user-friendly.

Lightning Fast

Seriously, under 60 seconds. So when you need your coffee, it’s there!

Customization and Simple Operation

Variable settings allow for the Jura ENA 5 coffee machine to be programmed specifically to unique tastes. Change the grind settings, water output, amount of coffee, and milk frothing. Of course, it’s not a customizable as having professional machines, but for a super-automatic, it can be tweaked quite nicely to fit personal preferences.

Adjustable Nozzle Height

The option to move the milk frothing nozzle helps to maintain the professional quality with the exact amount of foam/crema desired.

Three Color Choices

Okay, so this has nothing to do with the way the coffee tastes, but it makes your kitchen look great! Choose from Red, Black, or White options.

Zero Energy Button

When the machine is on Standby, there is absolutely nothing “live” that is drawing energy.

This is a great bonus compared to many coffee makers that have a digital clock that constantly pulls power from your socket when the machine is not in use. Reduce energy by up to 40%.

Cons of the Jura ENA 5 Coffee Machine

Jura-Capresso-ENA-5-reviews-features-Consumer-Files
  • Cleaning. The mechanism inside can’t be removed for cleaning, which means that the recommended method of cleaning is using “pills” purchased from the manufacturer. This is costly and not especially effective. However, using the optional water filter should keep the machine running smoothly for longer.
  • Steam Wand Hazard. Reports from consumers suggest that the steam wand may tend to launch across the room. Although we haven’t seen this first hand, well, that’s not a particularly attractive feature.
  • Mixed Reviews. Searching various sources, Jura ENA 5 Reviews seem to have either “love it” or “hate it” reviews and very few in between. This can indicate that the machine is a good design that works well at first, but may not in the long run, and the company is not always stellar at getting machines fixed. Common themes among negative reviews include broken parts and the machines simply stopped functioning.
  • Two Year Limited Warranty. Although this seems like a good thing, the word “limited” is key. Apparently, after 14 days, the company insists on a repair instead of replacement, meaning that a faulty unit could cause you to go on-and-on with repeated repairs.
  • High Price. This one is going to cost you. Probably over $1000. And we don’t mind paying for an excellent machine that will last for years, but there seems to be some question about the ability of the Jura ENA 5 to hold out for long periods of time. With the mixed reviews, this seems like a risky investment.

Jura-Capresso ENA 5 Review - Conclusion

This super-automatic Jura Capresso ENA 5 coffee machine does produce a tasty cup of coffee, no doubt about it. But we are concerned about its ability to hold up under pressure (literally, with flying milk nozzles!). For the kind of cash that this machine requires, most customers would likely be happier with another Jura model (the S9, perhaps) or another brand of super-automatic coffee machine.
