Overview of Fujita SMK9070

We put on our detective hats and set out to find out all there is to know about the Fujita SMK9070 massage chair — it’s features, programs, and what sets it apart from others on the market.

Now, we’re sharing what we’ve learned with you.

By the time you finish this Fujita SMK9070 massage chair review, you’ll know whether it’s worth considering or if you’re better off with another model.

Let’s get started!

Features of the Fujita SMK9070 Massage Chair

Body Scan Acupoints Technology

Before a massage begins on the Fujita SMK9070, a body scan initiates.

During the scan, the Fujita SMK9070 massage chair uses infrared and pressure sensors to digitally “map” your back to determine the length of your spine, the position of your shoulders, the shape of your body, and your acupoints. It then uses that data to determine the range of the rollers such that they align to your unique shape and height — knowing where and where not to massage.

You may be thinking… height and shape are obvious but what are acupoints?

Great question.

According to traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine, acupoints are the points on the body through which energy, or life force flows. Together, the points form networks called meridians. It’s believed that if a meridian or acupoint becomes weak or blocked an imbalance in the body’s energy system occurs, which can lead to illness. Traditional therapies like shiatsu-style massage, acupuncture, and acupressure clear these blocks to proactively treat illness and bring balance back to the body’s energy system.

According to Fujita, nearly a third of your body’s acupoints (about 100) are located in your back and neck. The body scan on the Fujita SMK9070 is designed to detect these points and the massage rollers are designed to treat these points.

35-Inch S-Track with 3D Quad Rollers

The rollers move along a 35-inch S-Track.

So you may be wondering… what’s an S-Track?

A massage track is a mechanism in the backrest of the chair that the rollers move along. An S-Track describes the shape of the track, which in the case of the Fujita SMK9070, is an “S.” The “S” shape is specifically designed to replicate the natural curve of your spine.

Think about it…

Is your back perfectly straight?

No.

So your massage track shouldn’t be either.

With an S-Track, the rollers are able to keep consistent pressure and contact across curved areas like your neck and lower back.

Typically, S-Tracks range from 24 to 35 inches. So the 35-inch S-Track on the Fujita SMK9070 is at the long end of the spectrum, which means the roller massage will easily reach from your neck down to your tailbone.

The rollers are 3D, which means they move in three dimensions: horizontally (side to side), vertically (up and down), and outward (in and out). The third dimension, outward, determines the depth of the rollers, or the intensity of your massage. With 3D rollers, you get a lot more control over your massage.

The rollers are quad so there are four total — two on either side of your spine. The rollers replicate the feeling and movements of two thumbs and two hands as they massage. And in addition to 3D intensity, there are three width and speed adjustments for the roller.

Air Massage Technology

Throughout the Fujita SMK9070 are 46 airbags that treat the head, shoulders, arms, hands, thighs, seat, calves, feet — a true full-body air massage system.

While most airbags are programmed to perform compression massage, or to simply squeeze and release an area. Many of the airbags on the Fujita SMK9070 perform advanced techniques like swinging, twisting, and stretching.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the advanced air massage techniques…

  • Seat Swing – Airbags in the seat and next to the hips inflate to lift the body and gently swing it from side to side. This movement helps mobilize the lower back and provides a gentle stretch to the area.
  • Twist – Airbags next to the hips and seat inflate at varying intervals to gently twist the pelvis and waist. Fujita explains, “New W-shaped airbags are designed to stimulate and promote gastrointestinal peristalsis, which improves the digestive system, stimulates acupoints in the hips, and prevents hemorrhoids.”
  • Hands – Multi-layered airbags inflate and deflate at varying intervals to increase circulation and the removal of stagnant fluids from the arms and hands.
  • Legs and Feet – A combination of air massage, rollers, vibration, and far infrared heating are used to expel toxins from the legs and feet and to enhance immunity.

Sliding Armrests

A common complaint you’ll hear about many massage chairs is that when you recline the armrests stay in the same position.

So you may be wondering… what’s the big deal?

Think about it…

As you recline back in the chair, your arms move backward. If the arm massage wells don’t move with you, your arms and hands are either improperly positioned within the massager or you have to forgo an arm massage altogether, at least until you’re back in the upright position.

It’s not a great feature if you want to be fully reclined and enjoy an arm massage.

The Fujita SMK7090 massage chair solves this problem with sliding armrests that move with you as you recline, so you can enjoy an arm massage in any position.

Foot Rollers

At the bottom of the ottoman on the Fujita SMK9070 are mechanical rollers that knead and spin under the feet performing a reflexology massage that treats acupoints. The rollers can be added to any manual massage or turned off at any time.

Portable Heat Therapy Pad

Perhaps one of the most distinctive features on the Fujita SMK9070 is its portable heating cushion. The cushion is attached to the chair with a cord, but can be positioned anywhere you need the benefits of heat, including the chest, stomach, thighs, and knees.

Since most massage chairs only treat the back of the body, the portable heating pad on the Fujita SMK9070 is an innovative way to extend coverage to the front.

Zero Gravity

The Fujita SMK9070 also features Zero Gravity.

So what is it?

Zero Gravity is a reclined chair position that angles your body such that most of its weight is held by the backrest while your legs are elevated at your heart. It was originally designed by NASA to help astronauts combat the gravitational stress of taking off in a rocket. Today, it’s one of the most popular massage chair features thanks to therapeutic benefits like removing vertical pressure from your spine and increasing circulation in your lower body.

Music System with Built-In Speakers

Near the headrest on either side of the Fujita SMK9070 are built-in speakers. These speakers deliver crisp, soothing sounds while you enjoy your favorite massage.

Space Saving Technology

Another feature on the Fujita SMK9070 that doesn’t directly affect the quality of your massage but is definitely a bonus is space saving technology. With space saving technology, the chair slides forward as it reclines, drastically reducing the amount of space needed behind the chair to fully recline. So rather than needing at least a foot of space behind the chair, it only requires about an inch — great news if you want a big massage chair without the big footprint.

Handheld Remote with Built-in Base

The Fujita SMK9070 features a handheld remote with a built-in base in the armrest for easy access and storage.

When not in use, the remote fits into a cutout on the armrest. When you’re ready to make your selections, you can pop the remote up and fix it in the upright position for easy navigation.

The remote is connected to the chair with a cord so you never have to worry about losing it. And all of the buttons are clearly labeled which means you won’t have to spend too much time memorizing the Fujita SMK9070 manual.

Massage Programs of the Fujita SMK9070

Automatic Massage Programs

The Fujita SMK9070 has seven automatic massage programs, or healthcare programs as they call them. These programs are fully-automated massages that require little to no effort on your part. Each massage has intended benefits and runs for 15 minutes, though you can adjust the time up to 30 minutes.

Perhaps the most popular and notable automatic program is a full-body stretch program. The program is a Thai-inspired stretch program that uses airbags, rollers, and the chair itself to provide a deep, therapeutic full-body stretch. Here’s how it works…

During the stretch program, the shoulder airbags inflate to pin the upper body back against the chair. At the same time, the airbags in the ottoman inflate to hold the legs in place. Then, the chair reclines and inclines to pull and stretch the muscles, particularly focusing on the shoulders, waist, and back. Then, as the chair changes positions, rollers in the backrest help to further the stretch as they move up and down the spine.

Another unique feature on the Fujita SMK9070 is its “Q” button which allows you to cue another massage so that once one ends another will automatically begin.
